My husband got a collection letter yesterday for a phone bill that was over 10 years old from a company he doesn't recall having an account with. They are requiring a letter within 30 days if he is disputing the debt. I know they'll send letters forever but can they legally collect? Do I send a letter stating that he has no idea what they're talking about?

just ignore it, 7 years and its off credit report anyway. they only do that stuff hoping you will respond in a way that allows them to slap it back on your credit report, so that way they have some leverage.
